Eswatini:
A small kingdom
with rich culture

Eswatini may be one of Southern Africa’s smallest countries, but it offers a travel experience with remarkable depth and character. Formerly known as Swaziland, this independent kingdom is known for its striking landscapes, proud cultural heritage, welcoming people and easy blend of nature, tradition and authentic local life.

Eswatini

For travellers looking to experience a destination that feels genuine and less hurried, Eswatini is a rewarding choice. Rolling hills, mountain scenery, wildlife areas, craft markets and traditional cultural experiences all come together in a country that feels both accessible and deeply rooted in its identity.

What makes Eswatini so special is its atmosphere. There is a warmth here that travellers feel quickly. It is found in the people, in the pace of the country, and in the way culture remains present in daily life rather than staged for show. Eswatini offers a softer, more intimate side of Southern African travel, and that is exactly its strength.

Eswatini’s landscapes may be smaller in scale than some of its neighbours, but they are beautifully varied. Travellers can move through rolling countryside, mountain regions, nature reserves and cultural centres within a relatively short distance. This gives the journey a sense of richness without demanding long, exhausting travel days.

The country is especially appealing for those who value living culture. Eswatini has a strong sense of identity, and its traditions remain visible in everyday life, ceremonies, craftsmanship and community. Alongside that, there is also wildlife, birding, scenic routes and peaceful natural beauty that make the country rewarding for nature lovers too.

Who is Eswatini perfect for?

  • guests interested in culture, crafts and authentic local experiences

Eswatini may be small, but it adds depth, charm and a strong sense of place to any regional journey.

Pair Eswatini with neighbouring destinations

Eswatini combines beautifully with South Africa, especially KwaZulu-Natal, Kruger and surrounding safari regions. It also works well alongside Lesotho for travellers wanting to explore the mountain kingdom and the cultural heart of another neighbouring state within the same broader journey.

Because of its location and manageable size, Eswatini fits naturally into overland itineraries that move between safari, coast, culture and countryside. It adds balance and character without demanding a major detour.

For travellers wanting a journey with variety, Eswatini is an excellent addition.

What clients say

Unbelievably beautiful. We booked a day tour to Sani pass from Underberg. We were picked up from our hotel and communication was prompt with the tour operator by indicating the time of departure. Our guide Siya was absolutely knowledgeable of the area, the culture and procedures at the border crossings and most importantly the drive. He was a very competent driver and extremely skilled and made the experience absolutely enjoyable. He gave us ample time to take photos and to do sightseeing and always gave valuable information on the area. An absolute must visit as the views are breath-taking and the pictures do not do justice to such a beautiful landscape. The visit to the Basotho village was also very interesting and an excellent experience.

High up to the highest pup in Africa. Super nice experience to Sani Pass! Beautiful landscape and bumpy roar up the pass to the highest pup in Africa! The way to Underberg is a bit long, 3h in a comfortable mini bus and a friendly driver explaining so much about South Africa and local things. But then the road trip up the pass starts and it was a beautiful experience. The beauty is the small group (we were 4 in the Jeep) and hence stops upon our request was not a problem. Also there was a good communication with the experienced driver and other participants (if you want). Next time I will do it again! For sure!!

Best company for a Sani Pass trip to Lesotho. Highly recommend this company for a day trip to Lesotho via Sani Pass. Excellent guide who picked us up from our guesthouse and looked after us all day. Fantastic knowledge of the area, birds, plants etc. stopped on the way and made us coffee in the back of his truck – nice touch. Local lunch not included but place we were taken which was quite new did a good lunch for ZAR 150. Cost of tour very good value.

Great way to experience the Sani Pass! We had a great time going on the Sani Pass tour to Lesotho. Everything was well organized and the trip was both interesting and fun. Our tour guide Patrick was fantastic and shared great insight into the history of the region aswell as the geography. He also made sure we had enough opportunities to stop for a picture or a short break. Great way to see the Sani pass and get a glimpse of Lesotho!

Excellent organization. My cousin and I made the reservation very late, but this was not an issue for the organizer. We received the exact pickup location where the van collected us. SKY, who was the driver, guide, and main source of information, handled everything excellently. Thank you for the great organization. Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic and memorable time. Sani Pass was breathtaking and Lesotho amazing. Our time in the village with Joseph was really interesting and no show put on for us which is what we prefer. Accommodation very good and connections in and out of Durban well organised. Our guide Peter was knowledgeable and personable and we enjoyed our time with him. We would highly recommend this tour.
